The International department of CGC Biomass Management principally operates in 3 distinct business lines:
Comercialisation of Biomass
CGC Biomass Management is currently one of the largest operators in the biomass market globally and enjoys a
leading position in Europe
.
We supply biomass in the form of bio fuels to a large number of power stations in Europe dedicated to the production of
electricity and/or heat.
In some cases this biomass is also used in the production of raw materials such as active coal.
In 2005 we exported more than 400,000 tonnes of biomass from Spain and North Africa.
Constantly growing and expanding, CGC Biomass Management’s objective, within a few years, is to supply several million tonnes
of biomass material to consumers across the globe.
Thanks to its importation activity, the International department is also capable of supplying biomass to the Spanish market and thereby satisfying
some of the country’s growing demand.
Most of these international commercial activities are carried out in collaboration with Box Marine Ibérica,
and with the support of CGC Terrestrial Transport.
Prospective Markets
To obtain large quantities of biomass CGC is constantly prospecting markets across the globe. Specifically, this involves the search for potential biomass products
that can be used as bio fuels (in some cases after processing).
This process of market prospecting includes studies of quality, available quantity, price, location and logistics from
its point of origin to its respective points of consumption.
These studies give us a profound understanding of the international biomass market and, as a consequence,
provide us with the necessary information to stay competitive.
Investments
In some cases the biomass materials that we find while prospecting require value added processing before they can be used as bio fuels.
On certain occasions, this may imply a small investment to improve quality parameters.
On others, however, the value added processing is essential to make the material suitable for export.
For this reason CGC Biomass Management is constantly studying investment opportunities in international biomass projects.
Sometimes these studies result in concrete projects such as in South Africa, where CGC, together with another company,
is investing in a pelletization plant using by-products from the timber industry.
Finally, CGC Biomass Management invests in commercial real estate such as storage facilities. Strategically situated, these
allow us to optimise the biomass management and supply logistics and guarantee the quality of the products.
