CGC Biomass Management

The Company

Growing environmental awareness, together with progress towards meeting the Kyoto Protocol has turned biomass management into one of CGC Group’s most important activities.

As company supplying energy products, GCG Group has a strong commitment to protecting the environment by promoting and dedicated greater resources to the distribution of renewable energy sources – specifically in the commercialisation of biomass* - as well as by participating in projects that add value to agricultural and forestry residual mass.

CGC Biomass is an expert in the global logistics of biomass management from its various points of origin to its respective points of consumption.

Biomass* Biomass is defined as the collective name for renewable organic material of vegetable, animal origin or that is derived from the natural or artificial transformation of those materials.
From the point of view of its use as an energy source, biomass is classified into the following categories:

» Residual Biomass: residual material from agriculture, forests, agricultural industry, forestry industry and biodegradable residuals (farm waste, solid organic urban residuals and organic material from urban water residuals).
»Biomass from energy yielding crops: Bio fuels (solids, liquids and gases).

As a renewable energy, the use of biomass provides a neutral CO2 emission as it returns the same amount of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere as that previously fixed during photosynthesis. As such, the substitution of fossil fuels for biomass benefits the environment by reducing the greenhouse effect and stabilising the concentrations of CO2 produced and emitted in the generation of energy.
